A new era for cybersecurity

A new era for cybersecurity

Cybersecurity morphs daily – and the way we defend it must too. That's why, along with our team, I am excited to launch ClearVector, an identity-driven security company built to help organizations protect themselves in a cloud-native and cloud-first future. By focusing on identities and starting with the cloud, ClearVector is raising the bar for the adversary while defining a new approach to solving today's and tomorrow's cybersecurity challenges.

Why ClearVector

Despite investing billions of dollars in cybersecurity, the impact of cyberattacks is at an all-time high. Ransomware dominates the headlines. Decentralized payment technologies enable new ways to monetize theft and extortion. All the while, the pace of cloud adoption accelerates, expanding the attack surface and widening the expertise gap.

In 2020, I took stock of the cybersecurity industry, both offensive and defensive offerings. When I considered how to combat this escalating global problem, I saw a future that required a significantly different approach.

First, chasing bad things doesn’t work. Reflecting on my experiences, chasing an ever-growing set of bad things, that are out of your control, is, by definition, an unsolvable problem. That's the one you want defenders focused on and unfortunately, math is not on the defenders' side. Attackers, especially when adopting machine learning, will create mathematically unachievable outcomes for defenders.

Second, the cloud changes everything. The cloud means many things to different people, but I think about the cloud in terms of a major shift in the speed and scale of operations, and the introduction of fully programmatic infrastructure. This translates to an unprecedented, ephemeral, and decentralized expansion of attack surface that’s “always on.” The current best practice paradigm of endpoint, network, email, SIEM, SOAR, and MDR simply won't work for what’s coming.

The ClearVector Mission

At ClearVector, we’re building what we call “identity-driven security.” We’re focused on enabling you, the defender, to reason about things you can control, your own identities, and enabling you to #win against the adversary. We care about making the adversary’s mission hard, obvious, or immediately visible. We’re focused on solving the core problem of cybersecurity – understanding what’s happening – and mitigating risk in realtime. We give you realtime intelligence and control over the identities operating in your environment.

We are embarking on an exciting and challenging journey and I am looking forward to working with you to develop a better, and safer, world! It’s time to bend reality (again), think differently about cybersecurity, and build a great company that changes the game. If this sounds exciting, reach out to us at [email protected].
